Expressive Island

Privacy Policy

How the app accesses and handles your information.

Effective date: 23 October 2026

Expressive Island is an Android utility that provides an interactive on-screen overlay, pills and expandable cards for supported notifications, system controls and app integrations. This policy explains what information the app may access, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

The short version

The source code reviewed for this policy processes relevant notification, accessibility and configuration information on your device to provide app features. It does not implement an account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or a developer-operated service that routinely uploads this information. Some Android permissions provide access to sensitive on-device information, as explained below.

1. Information the app accesses

Depending on the features you enable and the permissions you grant, Expressive Island may access or process the following information locally on your Android device:

  • Notification information. If you enable notification access, the app can receive active notifications and notification updates. Relevant notification titles, text, timing, status, media metadata, progress information, actions and originating app details may be processed to provide supported cards and integrations.
  • Accessibility information. If you enable the Accessibility Service, Android may provide accessibility events and information about interactive windows. The reviewed implementation uses this for overlay-related behaviour, supported Clock interfaces and certain voice-recorder controls. Information visible through accessibility windows can be sensitive.
  • Installed-app information. The app declares permission to query installed packages. Package information may be used to support app selection, identify the source of notifications and determine which integrations are relevant.
  • Device and system state. The app may check screen state, display state, orientation, lock state, battery status, connectivity and supported system settings to keep the overlay and system-related cards functioning correctly.
  • Bluetooth information. Bluetooth-related features may use connection state and device identifiers or names needed to identify connected devices and apply your configuration or exclusion preferences.
  • App preferences. Settings such as card order, enabled integrations, calibration, positioning, exclusions and other customisation choices are stored locally so the app can remember your setup.
  • Accessibility screenshot capability. The Accessibility Service configuration declares screenshot capability. This does not mean screenshots are continuously captured. Any use must be assessed against the actual feature implementation and the permissions and disclosures presented in the app.

2. How information is used

Information accessed by the app supports its core functionality, including:

  • Displaying and updating the overlay, notification pills and cards.
  • Showing relevant media, timer, stopwatch, navigation, sports, progress and recorder information.
  • Responding to actions you initiate through supported cards and controls.
  • Positioning the overlay and adapting it to display changes.
  • Remembering your preferences and enabled integrations.
  • Supporting local diagnostics where applicable.

The app is not intended to use notification or accessibility content for advertising or to build an advertising profile.

3. Local processing and data sharing

In the source code reviewed for this policy, no analytics SDK, advertising SDK, account-registration system or developer-operated backend for routinely uploading notification and accessibility content was identified. The app declares network-related Android permissions, but the reviewed source did not establish routine transmission of this information to a developer-operated server.

Expressive Island does not sell your personal information. Its reviewed implementation does not intentionally share notification or accessibility content with the developer or other companies.

Android, other apps on your device and optional third-party tools have their own functionality and privacy practices. If you interact with another app or trigger one of its actions, that app may process information under its own policies.

This description applies to the code reviewed for this policy. It must be updated if future versions introduce billing, analytics, crash reporting, advertising, remote services or other third-party SDKs that change the app's data practices.

4. Permissions and optional integrations

Some features require permissions granted through Android settings. You can decline or revoke permissions, although the associated features may then be unavailable.

  • Notification access: Allows the app to receive and process notifications for supported integrations. Notifications can contain private or sensitive content.
  • Accessibility Service: Supports window awareness and specific integrations, as described in this policy. Accessibility access is powerful and may expose information displayed in interactive windows to the service. Enable it only if you want the associated functionality.
  • Display over other apps: Allows Expressive Island to display its overlay above other apps.
  • System settings: Certain system-control features may require permission to modify supported device settings.
  • Shizuku: If you use Shizuku-powered features, you may be asked to authorise supported system operations. Shizuku is a separate third-party tool with its own functionality and privacy practices.
  • Bluetooth and related permissions: Support the optional Bluetooth and connected-device features you use.

5. Data retention and deletion

App preferences and configuration are stored locally on your device. The reviewed implementation does not send the information described in this policy to a developer-operated server, so the developer does not maintain a remote copy of that information through the app.

You can revoke permissions through Android Settings and disable integrations within the app where supported. To remove locally stored app data, use Android's app settings to clear Expressive Island's storage or uninstall the app. This may remove your saved configuration.

Android system logs or diagnostic tools may retain technical information according to their own settings and retention behaviour.

6. Children's privacy

Expressive Island is a general-purpose Android utility and is not specifically designed for children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information for transmission to the developer from children. If you have a privacy concern about the app, please contact us below.

7. Security

Processing information locally reduces the need to transmit it, but no app or device can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep your device protected, review the permissions granted to Expressive Island, and disable access you no longer need.

8. Your choices

You control whether to grant Android permissions and enable optional integrations. You can review or revoke permissions in Android Settings. Some features will be limited or unavailable when their required permissions are disabled.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if the app's functionality, permissions, data practices or applicable requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page, with the effective date updated when appropriate.
